What does SEO mean?
SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization“. This is the process of acquiring Organic Traffic from the search results on search engines.
The practice of SEO increases the quality and quantity of traffic to your website or a specific URL. The biggest search engines like Google, Bing, and Baidu shows the primary results for a search, where they list web pages, videos, images, map locations, and apps based on their Rankings. To gain a better position in the Search Results, you may need to perform a certain Search Engine Optimization practices depending on the type of your content.
Understand SEO better
Let’s explore further to understand the meaning of SEO. We can break the whole definition down into three basic parts:
- Traffic Quality: Imagine, you are a Dentist and you want to attract your potential patients to your website. But if a search engine like Google tells the people searching for a coffee shop that you are making the best coffee in the neighborhood, that will be a disaster. You will definitely want to attract people who are really interested in your service(s) or product(s).
- Traffic Quantity: Now that you have been acquiring the right website traffic to your website, you want to increase the number of that traffic. You want more people to come to your website.
- Organic Results: When you search for something on Google, you’ll see that there are a lot of advertisements related to your search term. But, there is also a significant portion of the result that includes links to websites that haven’t paid the search engine to appear there. We call this “Organic Search Results”.
SEO or Search Engine Optimization allows you to utilize the opportunity of getting Organic Traffic. A proper SEO practice can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
How do Search Engines work?
You can call Search Engines digital libraries. They preserve copies of web pages just like a regular library stores copies of books. We call it “Indexing web pages”. When you type and search for a certain term, a search engine looks through all of the pages in its index list. Then they show you the most relevant ones as a search result.
